Terms of Service.
Last updated 2026-10-12. These terms apply to the website and the MacLean software.
1. Open-core licensing
The Free edition is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. You may use, modify and redistribute it under the terms of that license. The Pro edition is proprietary and license-gated: use requires a valid license issued by the license service, and it is granted per your plan (2-machine activation, 30-day offline grace). See the license-server terms at purchase.
2. Acceptable use
You agree not to: circumvent licensing or machine limits; reverse-engineer the license service; use the software to delete data you do not own or have the right to remove; or misrepresent the product’s capabilities.
3. No warranty
The software is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. MacLean is a tool that deletes files: you are responsible for reviewing cleanup candidates before confirming deletion.
4. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MacLean and its maintainers are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including data loss arising from use of the software. The safety model (trash-first deletion, restore workflows) reduces but cannot eliminate this risk.
5. Trademarks & community
The MacLean name and logo are governed by the project’s trademark policy. Community contributions are subject to the project’s DCO and contribution guidelines.
