Privacy

Your files stay on your machine.

This policy describes the data flows of the Free edition and the Pro license service. Last updated 2026-10-12.

1. Scanning is on-device

Storage scanning, classification and cleanup run entirely on your machine. File contents, paths and inventory data are not uploaded by the Free edition. No account is required for core cleanup.

2. What the license service stores (Pro only)

When you purchase and activate a Pro license, the license service stores the minimum data needed to issue and verify entitlements:

  • Purchase records:email address, Stripe customer reference, plan and amount (handled by Stripe as the payment processor).
  • License records:only a SHA-256 hash of your license key — the key itself is never stored.
  • Activations:installation identifier, platform and app version, used to enforce the machine limit.
  • Audit events:a record of activate / refresh / deactivate operations for abuse detection.

The license service never touches your filesystem — it answers only “what entitlement does this installation have?”. It does not scan, clean or collect file data.

3. Payment processing

Pro purchases are processed by Stripe via Stripe Checkout. Payment details (card numbers etc.) are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy; MacLean receives only the checkout result and a customer reference.

4. Retention & deletion

Purchase, entitlement and activation records are kept for the lifetime of your account plus any period required by law. License-key hashes are kept to prevent key reuse. To request deletion of your records, open an issue on GitHub or use the security reporting channel — deletion is performed on request, subject to legal retention obligations.

5. Analytics & third parties

The website uses no analytics trackers. The only external services are the license API (Pro) and Stripe (payment). We do not sell or share personal data for advertising.

Changes: this policy is updated when the license service or app behavior changes. Check the Changelog for related releases. Questions: GitHub.
